SOCIETY'S EXPECTATIONS OF YOU IN YOUR TWENTIES.

I am twenty-five years of age.  I know, I know I am extremely baby-faced, so I can imagine that you are shocked after reading this ( if you're not shocked, well... this is awkward.)

Let's get straight to the point - Society expects a lot from someone my age.

Society deems that I should have a good job, actually not a job,  a career. If you haven't, then there is a lot of pressure to get onto this path. Obviously, this may not be something that you are all going through, I may simply have the added pressure of having African relatives, who won't think twice before letting me know if I don't have this. Because I have a career I can breathe, as I can tick one of the boxes.

I also should be a homeowner.  It's that easy, didn't you know? You simply have to find a house and buy it... Why does society do this to us? It's imperative that I purchase a house straightaway, and it all sounds nice & easy. At the same time, people seem to conveniently forget about the hefty deposit that must be paid/saved for firstly.  I rent and I am ok with this,  but I often people telling me multiple times that 'I am wasting my money'. I have never understood this statement from people, as there is an expectation to miraculously come up with the funds to buy a place, when we all have bills to pay. I am not at all saying that I will never raise the money for a deposit to buy a house (of course I will), I am saying that this all takes time to achieve such a momentous goal. I know that I WILL be a homeowner one day and I will get there in my own time, so cut us some slack society - chill.
In essence, I think the best way to deal with what is expected of you, is to be happy with yourself and your own needs and try and block out what others think will make you happy when it's YOUR life.

It's all ok.  Take your time.  Breathe, and take everything a day at a time - it'll work out in the end, in your own timing.
