BUYING TIMELESS PIECES - THE LEATHER JACKET | O O T D

RUBY LEATHER JACKET | MISS SELFRIDGE
ORANGE SUEDE SKIRT | MISSGUIDED
ROUND FRAME SUNGLASSES | MISSGUIDED
CAMI TOP | TOPSHOP (SIMILAR)
MULES | PRIMARK (SIMILAR)
SUEDE CHOKER | NEW LOOK

This jacket is my favourite of all my jackets, I bought it in 2011 (yes, five years ago!) I have worn it to death, but it has served in well.  I have always said time and time again and still stand by this - 'buy clothing items that are an investment'. Quality is the essence of all timeless clothing purchases. It's better to have go-to pieces in your wardrobes that are never outdated, and can be worn no matter the occasion, than a one time wear that will be binned faster than the bottle of milk currently shelved in your fridge.

I work full time, so have very little time on most days, this means that I have to be practical with my outfit choices. When I buy something, I'm in it for the long haul, this is a lifetime commitment for me  (well at least until is it ripped and is such a state that it can no longer be worn in public). I look for pieces that work and will stand the test of time. Every style pick that I make, is often done after considering the following:
  • Quality over quantity Of course, most women dream of wearing a different outfit each day, we naturally think that the more clothes you have the better chance of looking great! This is the wrong way to approach buying clothes. Instead you should buy something because it is a sure thing, clothes that you are 100% satisfied with (and have loved), rather than clothes that you are ok with, in the long run this will work in your favour.
  • Try to avoid Fast Fashion trends- Now, more than ever, it makes more sense to buy less, but better. Style trends are currently dominated by fast fashion, no one can keep up with this and by the time you purchase the trendy item, the world will have moved onto the next big thisng.  Obviously keeping up with trends is still fine, but for the most part do your own thing stylewise!
  • Shop Wisely -  As an alternative, it is wise to think about the time of year to purchase timeless pieces. For example if you wanted to go for something heavier, let's say a winter coat, right now is the time to do it, whilst the rest of the world is snapping up bikini's most coats coats will be sold at a steal and vice-versa!
If you're on the hunt for some timeless staples/ideas, I've complied some selections for you below:

My leather jacket  is a very cute jacket that gives my outfit an edgy look. The jacket is not heavy so depending on how you like that, this could be viewed as a plus or a minus. I styled my 'timeless' jacket with a super simple and effortless cami top that goes with literally everything I wear and my suede orange A-Line skirt. It was precisely the right amount of colour pop that I needed to brighten up this look.  I added my chocker into the mix as an accessory, as it is one of the most predominant accessories for SS16. The mules & faux fur bag polish off the look and will be worn on a few more posts on DW, because I simply cannot get enough of them!

Overall, this shoot was so much fun! I love shoots that don't require having to get ready and going through the stress of getting an outfit together, but instead I can just shoot the look that I have on that day. I wore this look yesterday and just happened to have had taken my camera out with me. It just screams Spring.

If you have any suggestions/go to approaches that you use to pick timeless pieces - I'd love to hear them!
